EGUIDE (https://byoutai.ncnp.go.jp/eguide/) is a nationwide educational and research project involving 44 universities and 244 medical institutions across Japan (as of February 2022) with the aim of promoting more appropriate psychiatric treatment. From this project, the Department of Psychiatry at Niigata University Medical and Dental Hospital was awarded the first place of Good Practice Award on February 11, 2022. This award system evaluates the degree of conformity to standard treatment and optimization based on strict criteria to determine the ranking. The Good Practice Award has two categories, schizophrenia and depression, and Niigata University won the top prize in both categories.
In Japanese psychiatry, problems have been pointed out such as the use of multiple drugs and the strong tendency to select treatment based on the experience of individual doctors. The EGUIDE project aims to solve these problems through the dissemination of guidelines and education, and to contribute to the improvement of patients' QOL.
The Department of Psychiatry at Niigata University has been a leader in the research of psychiatric diagnosis and clinical psychopharmacology in Japan, and this award is the result of external recognition of the clinical education and practice, which has trained physicians capable of accurate diagnostic evaluation and rational drug therapy.
